N&C Supply Specialist Fire Glass to the New Super Care Home

Known as the first `Super Care Home in the Uk`, Peter House Dementia Care Unit in Gorleston –On –Sea near Norwich is a ground breaking new building that paves the way for future specialist dementia care throughout the country .

Dementia affects 850,000 people in the UK and is a growing problem as the population ages. The care of those who suffer the most was foremost in the design of the home. At a cost of £6.9 million, the home provides 88 bedrooms and communal areas designed by Stirling and Worcester Universities to ensure the residents remain as connected to nature as possible.

In any scenario, it is paramount that a building provides safety for all, especially for those who require assistance such as the elderly and vulnerable residents. In the nightmare scenario of a fire, residents would need as long as possible to vacate a building. N&C Glass were called upon to supply 170m2 of 18mm Pilkington Pyrostop fire resistant glass which means the glass will remain intact for a minimum of 60 minutes even when the fire is at is most aggressive. Furthermore the glass also controls the amount of heat passing through it allowing  a controlled environment for people to vacate the building safely.

Fire Glass literally saves lives and at N&C we have been supplying this highly technical glass into many projects for over 20 years. We have supplied Fire Glass to other key projects including the £550m Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Barts Hospital redevelopment in London and £430m Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
